Farmcrowdy, Kobo360 join league of leading mobile apps in Africa

Two Nigerian tech startups, Farmcrowdy and Kobo360 made the list of fourteen winners of the best innovative mobile applications on the African continent, according to AppsAfrica.com on Tuesday, 13 November 2018.

The two startups took the number one position in the Best Enterprise Solution (Kobo360), and Best AgriTech Solution (Farmcrowdy) categories.

Kobo360 is a logistics startup that helps both individuals and small businesses deliver goods to both local and international locations. Farmcrowdy is an agric-tech platform that gives Nigerians the opportunity to participate in agriculture by selecting the kind of farms they want to sponsor.

South Africa was the leading country in the fourteen categories as its startups picked up five awards. Travelstart for Flapp won the Best mCommerce Solution, Custos Media Technologies won Best Blockchain Solution; Clickatell Transact took Best Fintech Solution – WhatsApp Chat Banking; WeThinkCode won Social Impact Award; and Xander Educational Apps was adjudged Best Educational Apps.

Andrew Fassnidge founder of AppsAfrica.com, the organisers of the award, disclosed in a statement it received entries from over 39 countries including markets such as Malawi, Sao Tome $ Principe, Mauritania and Liberia, which represents “the rapid growth of African tech outside of the usual hotspots.”

Other mobile apps that got recognition include SafeBoda (Uganda), Best African App; Nala (Tanzania), Disruptive Innovation Award; Afya Pap (Kenya), Best HealthTech Solution – Baobab Circle; Qene Technologies (Ethiopia), Best News & Entertainment Solution – Kukulu Game; HydroIQ (Kenya), Best IoT Solution; Yego Innovision (Rwanda), Best Mobility Solution; and Vanu (Rwanda), Changing Africa Award.

The organiser disclosed that an independent panel of judges were selected from different industries including media, investors, and leaders from the tech ecosystem.

“With the reputation of this award, we are really honoured and what a way to celebrate our second year anniversary tomorrow,” Onyeka Akumah, founder of Farmcrowdy.

Winners of the award categories have been invited to participate in the Africa Tech Summit scheduled to hold in Kigali, from February 13 to 15, 2019.
