Expert urges FG to improve capacity building in IT sector

An Information Technology (IT) expert, Femi Efunsanya on Wednesday advised the Federal Government to improve capacity building in the sector to enhance economic growth.

Efunsanya, who is the Chief Executive Officer, Mdot Solutions made this call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

He said that that the training and retraining would help to build young entrepreneurs and start-ups on innovations and advancement on their skills in the country.

According to the expert, government should introduce process stratification by bringing each set of skilled people in clusters where others will learn from one another new applications, innovations and solutions in ICT.

“Government need to train and retrain upcoming entrepreneur to get used to new apps.

“Most of our young entrepreneurs can upgrade their skills by attending seminars and training centre such as tech hub where various start-ups meet,’’ Efunsanya said.

Efunsanya said that government should formulate policy that would create enabling environment and the establishment of a procedural base system that would encourage them.

The expert said that government should also formulate policy that would restrict all ministries and government agencies to patronise local contents to encourage more innovations among entrepreneurs.

The expert said that a lot of upcoming programme developers were not interested in developing and doing research due to inadequate research centres to upgrade them on information technology.

“Unskilled in what we do makes our service not acceptable by our local customers.

“Some are financially incapable to further their research and creation of innovations that can be patronised by local and international countries of the world.

“Local content patronage is not inculcated to the ministry and parastatals.

“If our content is patronised, it will increase the number of young minds engaging in technology,’’ he said.

Efunsanya appealed to youths to pick interest in technology, adding that the sector was capable of creating millions of job and revamping the economy from recession.
