Osimhen reportedly prefers Chelsea move despite PSG interest

According to GiveMeSport, Chelsea’s pursuit of signing Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has received a boost, as the Napoli striker is reportedly open to moving to Stamford Bridge this summer, despite interest from French Ligue 1 champions and Champions League semi-finalists Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

Following a string of impressive performances, Chelsea‘s prospects for the season are looking up under Mauricio Pochettino’s guidance.

With a commanding 5-0 triumph over West Ham and Manchester United’s surprising 4-0 loss to Crystal Palace, Chelsea has climbed to seventh place in the league standings.

Under the ownership of Todd Boehly, who spearheaded a £4.25 billion Chelsea takeover in May 2022, the Blues are keen on bolstering its attacking options despite recent successes.

“Osimhen is interested in joining Chelsea after being identified as their top striker target,” as quoted by GiveMeSport.

“But there are fears that Ligue 1 title-holders PSG could beat them to his signature as they are in line to be able to offer Champions League action next season.

“The Blues’ links to the Nigeria international have continued to crop up since the winter transfer window slammed shut, largely thanks to his impressive 17 goals and four assists in 30 appearances for the Serie A champions this term, but the west Londoners are aware that they have a battle on their hands for his signature.

However, there are concerns that PSG may have already made a lucrative offer to the 25-year-old Super Eagles striker, positioning themselves as frontrunners for his signature.

PSG have an abundance of cash to spend in the coming months as Kylian Mbappe is preparing to walk away from the Parc des Princes at the end of his contract, which will cut up to £114million off the wage bill every year, and are ready to make Osimhen their talisman if he agrees to head to the French capital.”

Osimhen continues to shine in Serie A, notching 15 goals in 23 appearances this season despite missing 11 matches due to injuries and his participation in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
