AFCON: Angry fans attack Ghana team, destroy bus

Following Ghana‘s 2-2 draw against Mozambique in the final group game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, angry fans attacked the bus carrying the Black Stars on their way out of the Alassane Ouattara Stadium on Monday night.

According to a viral video posted on Linda Ikeji’s official Instagram account, the Black Stars bus was vandalised as furious fans vented their frustrations on the team’s abysmal performance at the 2023 AFCON.

Shortly after Ghana’s 202 draw against Mozambique, some angry fans barricaded the team bus from leaving the stadium, demanding to speak to the coach Chris Hughton and the players.

The Black Stars of Ghana for the second time in the group stage of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations gave away a late lead as they were held again to a 2-2 draw by The Mambas of Mozambique.

Mozambique scored twice in second-half stoppage time to almost certainly send Ghana crashing out of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations at the group stage.

The draw means Ghana failed to win a game in the  tournament, having lost 1-2 to Cape Verde and drawn even with Egypt earlier in pool play.

Black Star, four-time African champions will have to wait as group play continues to see if they will advance to the knockout stage of the tournament as one of the four best losers.

Recall that Ghana and the head coach were attacked in the team’s hotel after Ghana lost 2-1 to Cape Verde in their opening match to win the 2023 AFCON.

Ghana is seeking its first continental title in more than four decades. Their last title came in 1982.
