As part of measures aimed at ensuring professionalism in solving security matters, Halogen Security Company Limited and Babcock University recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a School of Security Management, which will be a platform to enhance the competent skills of security professionals.
With the state of insecurity affecting the socioeconomic lives of various states in the country, especially in the North, stakeholders see the relationship between Halogen and Babcock University as a step towards deepening the knowledge of addressing security currently bedeviling the nation.
Speaking during the signing of the MoU, Wale Olaoye, managing director, Halogen Security Company Limited said that the idea of establishing Halogen School of Security Management is to enhance the capacity of individuals charged with the responsibility of security and live out the dream of its founders which is continuous development of professionals, in a bid to address the compendium of security challenges in the country.
“We have demonstrated over the years with our training academy located in Lagos which has continuously produced a pool of the security professionals till date, the academy has produced a cumulative of over 500,000 professionals with some of them occupying top security management cadre in multinational and other organisations. This is a step to increase capacity on this great achievement and bestow a legacy for the posterity,” Olaoye said.
Olaoye however commended Babcock University for being the only tertiary institution in the country to offer security studies cum law, being the reason for the company’s partnership with Babcock University.
On his part, Zac Olomojo, provost, School of Law and Security Studies, Babcock University congratulated Halogen for the milestone, assuring the company that the institution remains committed towards advancing knowledge in security solutions management.
Olomojo noted that the partnership will go a long way in filling the dearth of knowledge in security related practice in the country.
In a speech delivered at the occasion Oluwole Agbede, dean, School of Law and Security Studies Babcock University, said the idea of security studies was the initiative of the Vice Chancellor. “It started as a part of legal studies but now a full department and aspires to becoming a full security studies, not an adjunct of the school of law. The future plan is to make it up to the PhD level.” According Dayo Alao, CEO, Babcock Consulting stated that the state of security in the country has been very alarming noting that the relationship Halogen and Babcock will further advance knowledge of security in the nation.
