The saying that man is a product of his environment was, perhaps, part of the considerations that went into the design and development of a new building by the authorities of Corona Secondary School (CSS) which it unveiled recently.
The three-floor structure is a redefinition of learning in a comfy and convenient environment which, according to the 69-year-old institution, represents its mission to groom the next generation of leaders that will be fit-for-purpose in Nigerian economy.
The eco-friendly building, located in the Abijo, Lekki area of Lagos, sits on 1,500 square meters of land with 15 classrooms equipped with interactive screens for optimal learning. It also has laboratories, a cafeteria, a meeting room for staff members, a lift, a ramp, and other complementary amenities for students with special needs.
The new building, according to Raliat Adebiyi, chairman of the school’s Trust Council Governing Board, is what the school requires at the moment in order to produce well-rounded students who are ready to face the challenges of their time.
The structure boasts CCTV, fire alarms, and access control which ensures that only eligible students and staff gain access to the building.
According to Kikelomo Adewolu, infrastructure and development manager of the school, the building is not only technologically innovative, but also conveys an a luxurious ambience that students of this generation and generations to come world learn in.
“In putting the designs of the building together, we considered the environment and so, solar panels were installed; we looked at inclusion which is why the building comes with an elevator; we have a ramp and a toilet to cater for children who are physically challenged,” Adewolu said.
Adewolu disclosed that the new project comes with an alternative power solution, an extra low voltage system, fire suppression and fighting systems, adding that the project has a bio-reactor sewage plant which suaves sewage naturally, ventilation and lighting.
Adeyoyin Adesina, CEO of the schools’ Trust Council, said they are leveraging technological advancements such as robotics is essential in modern-day teaching and learning because it plays a pivotal role in preparing students for future career opportunities.
Adesina noted that the school management has, over the past 69 years of the school’s existence, ensured a consistent engagement with parents on the delivery of education to their children.
To her, the state-of-the-art building is part of the school’s commitments to high standards of always providing a conducive and convenient environment for learning.
