Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has congratulated Atiku Abukabar, the newly elected presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) expressing confidence in his ability to ‘rescue’ the country.
Udom who came fourth in the exercise held over the weekend polled 38 votes while Atiku who clinched the ticket got 371 votes.
The Akwa Ibom governor had earlier promised to work with whoever would emerge as the flagbearer of the party after he hosted the former president who visited him in Uyo, the state capital before the primaries.

In a statement,he signed and issued in Uyo and titled “ The time to move forward to rescue Nigeria,’’ he said Atiku as the winner of the primaries, he is confident that the former vice president has the “capacity to rescue our country from the pangs of insecurity, economic gloom and disunity.’’
Urging all party members and Nigerians to rally support for the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the president of the federal republic of Nigeria from next year, he also congratulated all the presidential aspirants saying they were dogged, showed maturity and a sense of sacrifice as well as patriotism demonstrated throughout the consultation period, he singled out Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state and lauded him for ‘ a very hot chase which earned him the second position with 237 votes at the primaries.’’
