Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State says he will account for every kobo he met and spent in his 365 days in office.
This style of accountability never seen before in the state will also reveal the exact amount spent on every ongoing project before he came.
This was disclosed by the First Anniversary Committee headed by the secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG), Dan Agogo, on Tuesday.
Agogo stated that the account would be rendered on May 29, 2024, at a public event where members of the public would be free to ask questions or seek clarifications.
Fubara has been under fire from the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by a Nyesom Wike loyalist who insists the governor has recorded zero achievements since May 29 2023.
Observers however said the ‘kobo for kobo’ account of the state may turn out to be a big bomb because of what it may reveal about where money went to.
The strategy may also portray Fubara as a more meticulous and transparent administrator in contrast with his predecessors.
The anniversary committee has also rolled out projects to be unveiled in 20 days to mark the first year.
The major projects include the N80bn Omoku – Egbema Road that goes to Imo State, the multi-billion Opobo-Andoni section of the Rivers Unity Road, and the Trans-Kalabari Road that may gulp over N100Bn, among others.
Already, the almost N200bn Port Harcourt Ring Road is in progress.
The committee said the governor approved a few projects for anniversary attention and focus because he did not believe in fanfare.
He said many projects were either ongoing or already completed, not requiring fanfare to put to use.
Agogo said Fubara initiated almost 90% of the projects highlighted while all the ones he met in office have either been completed or were under construction. The governor, doesn’t believe in abandoning projects he met, the SSG said.
A major highlight of the anniversary is the days Rivers State Economic & Investment Summit which would showcase potential of the state and what the state is doing to attract investors.
There would be a day for children, a state banquet, flag off of a Port Harcourt Maraton to beam attention to the state and promote fitness.
Agogo said some of the roads have over 20 flyovers put together.
Joe Johnson, the commissioner of information and communications, said people of the state should go to sleep over the possibility of completion of the gigantic projects.
He said the governor did not waste time to release N4bn as soft loans to 3066 businesses in one day.
The former commissioner of Information and Communications, Ibim SemenitarI, who is chair of the publicity sub committee, said the governor is keen to to involve the people of the state in the anniversaries because democracy is about the voters and the masses.
She noted that the governor would continue to engage the people as well as the media community in the state to give a full account of what he did with every Kobo he got for the state.
