However, these sectors often remain underdeveloped due to a lack of investment and modernization. By prioritising the development of these industries, African countries can create millions of jobs for young people, particularly in rural areas where unemployment rates tend to be higher.

Agriculture: Agriculture remains the largest employer in Africa, yet it is dominated by subsistence farming with low productivity. Modernising agriculture through the use of technology, improved farming techniques, and access to markets can make the sector more attractive to young people. Encouraging agribusiness, where young people engage in agribusiness along the value chain, can further stimulate job creation in the sector.

Manufacturing: Industrialisation is key to absorbing large numbers of unemployed youth. Investing in small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises (SMEs) can generate employment while reducing dependency on imports.
