Etomi speaks at Harvard’s Africa business conference

The Principal, George Etomi & Partners (GEP) and Pioneer Chair of the NBA Section on Business Law, George Etomi is billed to speak this weekend at the 2015 Africa Business Conference, organised by the Harvard Business School and tagged ‘A more inclusive Africa: The pursuit of progress for all.’

The conference, which holds from February 27th through to March 1st at the Harvard Business School, is the 17th outing of Harvard’s Africa Business Club and will address amongst other things, leadership challenges and developing businesses in Africa.

Etomi is part of a panel of veteran business leaders, from different parts of Africa, who have built successful companies in Africa. This includes, Mossadeck Bally, Chairman, Founder and CEO of Azalaï Hotels Group; Henry W. McGee, Senior Lecturer of Business Administration, Harvard Business School; and Dr. Mary Okelo of Makini Schools, who is also the first woman bank manager at Barclays Bank – East Africa, the founder of Barclays Bank Women’s Association; the founder and first chairperson of Kenya Women’s Finance Trust; and a former Senior Advisor to the President of the African Development Bank.

This expert team of business leaders will discuss their motivations for starting businesses, the challenges they faced while growing their businesses, and their outlook for the future of business in Africa. They will also provide practical advice on how young conference attendees can build businesses that will stand the test of time.

At this year’s event, supported by Standard Chartered Bank, Coca Cola; McKinsey & Company, MasterCard; Centre for African Studies; Harvard University; Oxford Business Group, The Boston Consulting Group (BCG); Bain & Company; African Business, The network Journal, CPAfrica, and several others, the African Business Club will promote and support entrepreneurship on the continent, by introducing of the NEW VENTURE COMPETITION; a Start-up Showcase for young entrepreneurs.

George Etomi is the founding Partner of GEP, a top commercial law firm established in Nigeria more than 30 years ago. He is also the first Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Section on Business Law (SBL). In 2014, he was conferred with a Fellowship by the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) and also received the President’s National Productivity Order of Merit Award in the same year.
