WAEC releases 2019 WASSCE private candidates’ examination results

The West Africa Examinations Council on Friday released the results of the 2019 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), for Private Candidates, Second Series results.

Olutise Adenipekun, Head of the Nigeria National Office of WAEC at a press briefing at the Council’s National Office, Yaba, Lagos disclosed that 33,304 candidates representing 35.10 percent obtained credits and above in a minimum of five (5) subjects including English Language and Mathematics.

Adenipekun said that out of Ninety 94,884 candidates that sat for the examination, 91,225 candidates, representing 96.14 percent had their results fully processed and released while 3,659 candidates representing 3.86 percent have a few of their subjects still being processed, adding that such results would, however, be speedily processed and released within a week.

Adenipekun disclosed that the results 9,457 candidates were reported to have been involved in one form of examination malpractice or the other.

According to him, “This number represents 9.74 percent of the total candidature for the examination. Their cases will be presented to the appropriate Committee of Council and the decision of the Council on their cases will be communicated to the affected candidates within the shortest possible time”.

The WAEC head of National Office, further stated that a total of 47,237 that sat for the examination were male while (47,647) were female, representing 49.78 percent and 50.22 percent, respectively.

Analysis of the results shows that 110 candidates with varying degrees of special needs registered for the examination. Out of this number, 38 were visually challenged; 15 had impaired hearing; 12 had low vision; three were spastic cum mentally challenged, and eight were physically challenged. All these candidates with special needs were adequately provided for in the administration of the examination. The results of these candidates have been fully processed and released along with those of other candidates.

He observed the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates – Second Series was successfully conducted in August 29, 2019 to October 2, 2019, adding that the Council in Nigeria has perfected its Electronic Certificate Management System, an online portal being deployed to enable private candidates request for their certificates online.

“Beginning with the WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2019-Second Series, the collection of certificates would be based on requests by candidates online via the Electronic Certificate Management System platform”, Adenipekun said.

He enjoined candidates who sat the examination to check the details of their performance on the Council’s results website within the next few hours.
