Third Mainland Bridge maintenance: Contractor plans to move diversion point

The contractor responsible for the rehabilitation and maintenance of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos plans to move the diversion point 2 kilometres towards Oworonshoki.

This will close the traffic to the Lagos Island-bound carriageway including the Adekunle-bound slip road beside the current diversion point for two weeks from January 15-29, 2021.

Moving the diversion point enables the contractor to remove, replace and cast in place joint 23 after the current diversion point, alongside other joints 16 and 17.

After casting the three joints and asphalting, the Lagos Island-bound carriageway will be opened to traffic.

This was contained in a letter signed by Olukayode Popoola, federal controller of works in Lagos State and engineer’s representative.

The Third Mainland Bridge was closed for six months for another phase of repair works since July 15, 2020.
