Ijaw Leaders in Edo communities on Wednesday cried out over alleged plans by militants to cause disorder and confusion during the Ondo State governorship election slated for Saturday, October 10.

The leaders who are government appointees from Ijaw riverine areas appealed to the authorities of the Nigeria Police to quickly swing into action and arrest the militants.

Speaking on behalf of the concerned leaders in Benin City,
Vincent Daniel alleged that the militants are in their hideouts at Nikhorogha community in Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State.

“The Inspector General of Police and the state government should do something about the militants’ camp at Nikhorogha. They are busy recruiting militants and camping them at Nikhorogha to cause mayhem in Ondo State during the forthcoming election.

“We are presently trying to manage the problem of herdsmen in the country but we will be having another crisis if the activities of militants at Nikhorogha is not checked.

“I am sure they will turn their guns against innocent people after the Ondo election,” he said.

Daniel also called on the Inspector-General of Police to promptly conduct investigations into the killing of one Yado Odogbo from Ajakurama in Ovia South West Local Government Area, who was purportedly murdered during the September 19 Edo State governorship election.

“We are also pleading with Governor Obaseki to reach out to the family of the deceased,” he added.
