Police free 7 abducted victims in Edo

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command on Monday said it rescued seven kidnapped victims in Ihievbe bush in Owan East local government area of Edo state.

The victims, who were passengers in a Toyota Sienna bus, were on Tuesday, last week, reportedly abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Afuze-Ihievbe-Auchi road and whisked into the bush.

But, Chidi Nwabuzor, police public relations officer, Edo state command, who confirmed the development, said the seven victims were rescued on Saturday by a combined security team in addition to two that were freed last week, bringing the total number of persons that have so far regained freedom to nine.

He noted that only nine persons were abducted by the kidnappers as against the 12 victims reported in some sections of the media.

According to him, “The first victims released were two. After three days, another seven victims comprising four males and three females were rescued by the police on Saturday during bush combing by the security team. So, as we speak, all of them had been released.”
