Oyo moves to renovate 351 primary health centres to enhance functionality

The Oyo State government has carried out a comprehensive assessment of 351 primary health centres in the state for renovation to enhance their functionalities.

The State Commissioner for Health, Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, a medical doctor who made this known during a handover of the report in Ibadan, explained that the comprehensive assessment was carried out in collaboration with a non-governmental organisation, First Health Dynamic Synergy International Limited (FHDSIL), to improve the quality of service delivery at each Primary Healthcare Centre, in the 351 wards across the state.

Ajetunmobi hinted that Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration had shown unflinching commitment to the health sector, prioritising primary health care due to its closeness to the people at the grassroots.

She promised that the ministry would peruse the report and meet with the contractors on the project done so far in all the Three Hundred and Fifty One Primary Health Centres in the state.

She maintained that the report would enable the ministry to have the status of all the 351 Primary Health Centres nominated for renovation, so as to move to the next phase.

According to her, “We all know that the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde is passionate about Primary Health Care because it is easily accessible to the citizenry of the state, and wants everybody to remain healthy.

“On this note, we are going to look at the work that had been done in all our Primary Health Facilities and reconfirm with the contractors that handled the projects. This will enable us to know the current status of these primary health care centres and move to the next phase.”

According to the Chief Executive Officer, FHDSIL, Temitope Alonge, the assessment is part of efforts to revitalise the Primary Health Care system in Oyo State.

Alonge, a professor, said that the company received approval in April 2022 from the Oyo State Government for partnership in optimising healthcare services for citizens of Oyo State.

He explained that the project was completed in May 2023 and the report was submitted to the office of the Executive Governor of Oyo State.

Alonge added that the observations and recommendations from the report gave birth to the stakeholders’ meeting that was held in July 2023 to review the report.

He maintained that in the report as at the time of assessment by First Health Dynamic Synergy International Limited, the PHCs nominated for renovation in the Thirty -Three Local Government Areas of Oyo were presented with pictures and observations according to the Local Government Areas where they were located.
