Oyo distributes farm inputs to 3,303 farmers In Oke-Ogun, Ibarapa

The Oyo State Government, under the ongoing Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery programme (SAfER), has distributed farm inputs and agricultural assets to 3,303 farmers in the State.

BusinessDay reports that the farmer beneficiaries went home with herbicides, snap-sack, sprayer tank, 16kg hybrid maize seedlings, insecticide and 20 bundles of improved cassava stems.

The distribution, which was the fourth in the series, was given to farmers from six local areas of Oke-Ogun as well as Ibarapa East and Eruwa.

Olasunkanmi Olaleye, the Oyo State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, who flagged off the distribution, said it was part (SAfER) by the Government.

The Commissioner said the Oyo State Government is committed to enhancing quality and increased farm produce in order to boost food security in Oyo State.

Unveiling the distribution at Saki West Local Government, the Commissioner, and Chairman, Food Security under SAfER, said the 4th phase of the farm inputs distribution was officially flagged off at Ibarapa East, Eruwa where about 2,537 farmers across Ibarapa zones benefited.

He said the distribution was ongoing simultaneously at the six local Governments in Oke Ogun, which include ATISBO, Saki West, Oorelope, Kajola, Iwajowa and Itesiwaju.

Speaking through Olusegun Ezekiel, the Director, Regulation and Enforcement, Olasunkanmi noted that the move was part of the State Government plan to cushion the effect of subsidy removal.

According to him, about 766 arable farmers would been given inputs in the six local governments in Oke Ogun.

The Commissioner equally noted that the fifth phase of the SAfER scheme in the food sector, included free vaccination for cattles, distribution of feed to goat and sheep farmers as well as subsidy on the use of tractors for farmers, would commence in the next few weeks.

In their separate remarks, the Baale Agbe ATISBO and Oorelope, Daniel Oketola and Oladunni Isaiah commended the Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for bringing succour to farmers in the State.
