Ohanaeze youths call for peace in Ebonyi

Road construction: Governors must certify jobs before we make payment, says Umahi

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide (OYC) has urged former Senate President, Pius Anyim, former Governor of Ebonyi State, Sam Egwu and other political leaders in Ebonyi State, to ceasefire and promote peaceful coexistence amongst all political parties in the State.

They also advised Anyim and Egwu to eschew any act capable of truncating the peaceful atmosphere in Ebonyi, stressing that they have been noticing resentment and bickering coming from both leaders, against their state Governor, Dave Umahi.

OYC observed as unfortunate the resentment and bickering, which has led to misguided utterances and behaviour, by political leaders like Anyim and Egwu, according to them have heightened political tension in Ebonyi, since Umahi’s defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Okechukwu Isiguzoro, president general, OYC, Tuesday, urged the political leaders not to use the defection of their state Governor, Umahi from the PDP to the APC, as a yardstick to instigate political tension in their peaceful State.

The former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim on Monday, petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari, Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu and the DSS over the alleged plot, by Umahi to kill him for not defecting from the PDP to the APC with him.

Recall also that Umahi, in a broadcast on November 27, 2020, alleged that he received information that Anyim, Egwu alongside other political leaders, were planning to instigate a crisis in Ebonyi State with the aid of cultists and a Pro-Biafra group.

Umahi also said that he cannot confirm if the information is true or not, but needed to share the information with the security agencies to avoid the loss of lives as every governor in Ebonyi has been fought by the same set of leaders he listed.

OYC stated that the group still recalled the political crisis that led to untimely deaths of hundreds of young people in Ebonyi State, based on the feud between Sam Egwu and Senator Pius Anyim, during the tenure of Egwu, as Governor and Anyim, as Senate President.

He stressed that the ugly experience of that era had remained indelible in the minds of people and there are attempts to repeat that violence again in 2020, through the ongoing recruitment of cultists and radical Biafra agitators, by Ebonyi leaders against Governor Umahi.

OYC stated that it is obnoxious for a group of leaders to be plotting such move with evil intend to set their own State ablaze and cautioned that such unreasonable moves must stop.

The Ohanaeze Youths advised all young persons in the State to resist violence, avoid people heightening tensions and urged them to ask such political gladiators brewing crisis to bring out their own children to lead the way in such crisis.

OYC urged all Ebonyi political leaders instigating crisis in the State against Umahi, to remember that they too are not saints, as history is there to prove that.

“Governor Umahi’s tenure has been peaceful and had recorded a lot of developmental strides in Ebonyi State and he should not be distracted, his political sojourn to APC is in the best interest of the South-East Region with the support and backing of Igbos.

“Has Pius Anyim, forgotten his alleged involvement in the scandal of Abuja Centenary City, Which OYC had been studying of recent? Has Sam Egwu forgotten so soon the scandal that led to his exit, during his tenure, as Minister of Education, where millions were squandered at his birthday party in 2009, when ASUU was on strike?

“We have comprehensive list from the budget office of National Assembly from 1999 to 2019, and the records of monies released for constituency projects for the three senatorial zones in Ebonyi State.

“We are still investigating on projects executed so far, by the National Assembly members from Ebonyi state, but unfortunately most projects are missing at the locations and sites, they will be called to render their stewardship sooner than later”.

OYC noted that the claim by Pius Anyim’s that Governor Umahi wants to kill him, as false and a huge joke, aimed at creating disaffection and divide Eboyians along party lines.

The Ohanaeze Youths wondered why Anyim is always quick at claiming that anybody he had disagreement with was planning to kill him.

“Last time he alleged that Arthur Eze, was after him and now Governor Umahi.

“We wish to admonish the Former President of the Senate, that it is time to allow peace to triumph in Ebonyi State.

“He should never repeat the sad episode of the feud that existed between him and Sam Egwu, because, OYC will resist all attempts to make Ebonyi State ungovernable.

“At the expiration of 7-days Ultimatum to him and others, if they refused to listen to the voice of reason, there will be stiff sanctions on any erring leader caught”, they stated.
