Nigeria Police denies rift with EFCC over land dispute allegations

Nigeria Police Force

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has firmly denied allegations of a rift with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over a land dispute involving Bilikisu Ishaqu Aliyu and the Yesufu family.

The NPF clarified that their relationship with the EFCC remains professional and cooperative, dismissing any claims of discord as baseless and misleading.

The police further emphasized that their involvement in the matter is limited to maintaining law and order, refuting accusations of interference in civil disputes.

The Force described the claims as unfounded and misleading, asserting that they paint the police in a false light as an irresponsible and meddlesome agency.

In a statement issued on Saturday by Force Spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the NPF clarified its position in response to a report titled ‘Yesufu Family Seeks Justice As Police Authorities Fail to Investigate Bilikisu Ishaqu.’ According to Adejobi, the report distorted the facts and misled the public.

“The IGP should not be dragged into civil matters such as this land dispute,” Adejobi stated. “The NPF’s role is primarily to maintain law and order and ensure public safety. The police only intervene in disputes when there are clear criminal elements involved.”

He emphasized the cooperative and professional relationship between the two agencies, dismissing any suggestion of conflict as a blatant attempt to create unnecessary tension.

The statement urged aggrieved parties to follow proper channels if they require the IGP’s intervention, rather than resorting to media blackmail or attempting to malign the IGP’s reputation.

The NPF remains open to addressing legitimate concerns and providing assistance, provided the correct procedures are followed.

Further urged called on the public to disregard the unfounded claims in the media and continue to seek police intervention on issues that could trigger crises and violence.

The Force reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace, unity, and progress in Nigeria.
