All security aides attached to Mojisola Meranda, the speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, have been withdrawn.

As of Thursday morning, police officers and other security personnel assigned to the speaker were no longer in place.

The reason for the withdrawal remains unclear, but a source close to Meranda confirmed the development, expressing concerns over her safety.

The move comes amid speculation that Meranda may resign from her position as speaker. This follows the intervention of key figures within the All Progressives Congress (APC), including former Osun and Ogun State governors, Bisi Akande and Olusegun Osoba.

The duo led a mediation panel that met with key stakeholders, including members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), at the Governor’s Lodge in Marina last Sunday.

According to GAC members present at the meeting, the panel is recommending the resignation of Mudashiru Obasa, with Meranda also expected to step down to allow a new lawmaker from Lagos West to assume the House leadership.

“We don’t know why the authorities have done that, but all the police officers and other security details attached to her have been withdrawn. She’s on her own at the moment,” The Punch wrote, quoting Ganzallo Victor, Meranda’s spokesperson.

Meanwhile, a source within the Obasa camp disclosed that security aides attached to the former Speaker had been reinstated.
