LASUTH opens 120-bed facility in capacity expansion for patient demands

Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH)

The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) has opened a 120-bed facility as part of an extensive capacity expansion designed to fix the persistent demand for increased accommodation, specifically for emergency patients.

The Sustainable Development Goals building, the facility housing new wards under various units was commissioned on Wednesday by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos State.

Part of the 120-bed complex will function as an extension of the hospital’s surgical and medical wards, which were previously faced with the shortage of bed spaces.

The rest consist of private wards, executive private wards, a wellness centre, private dental suite, private operating suite, as well as departments of managed care, family medicine and dietetics unit.

“This journey started a few years ago from a casual visit of her excellency to LASUTH. Incidentally, she consults in our clinics. She asked what she could do for us and I had no hesitation in telling her that we needed more wards because we were tired of being labelled “LASUTH no bed. We came up with the idea of this 120-bed multipurpose building. I thank her excellency for donating this structure to LASUTH,” Adetokunbo Fabamwo, a professor and chief medical director of the hospital said.
