Lagos explosion: Buhari commiserates with victims as NNPC probes incidence

President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday commiserated with families who lost loved ones, and all those affected by explosion in Abule Ado, Lagos, even as he said the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation is investigating the immediate and remote cause of incidence.

The gas explosion which is considered as one of the ugliest in recent history, occurred in the Lagos suburbs of Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, on Sunday.

The President’s statement signed by Garba Shehu, a Presidential Spokesman, is coming against the backdrop of preliminary reports by Hakeem Odumosu, the Lagos State Police Commissioner of police, which has however ruled out a possible acts of terror or bomb explosion

The President condoled with the Lagos State government and all residents affected by the unfortunate incident, which left many injured and destroyed property.

President Buhari in the statement said he received news of the incidence with sadness and prayed for the families of the victims, as NNPC work to unravel the real cause.

“I have received with sadness the news of this unfortunate incident which caused loss of lives and property.

“A misfortune of whatever scale anywhere is a tragedy to the country, and while the NNPC makes efforts to determine the cause of the incident, I send my deepest and profound sympathises to the victims, their families, government and people of Lagos State.”
