Labour urges Buhari to inaugurate PENCOM Board, others

The Nigeria Labour Congress NLC, Thursday, called President Muhammadu Buhari to constitute the Boards of the National Pension Commission and three others considered critical to effective handling of Labour issues.

President of the NLC, Ayuba Wabba made the demands when he led the union officials to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari.

Wabba, in his presentations made to the President had lamented the high level of stagnation in the public sector, which he said also leads to “ indiscipline” and urged President Buhari to urgently revisit the “ tenure” policy which has made the public service “ top heavy”

Other institutions which he want their boards inaugurated include the National Social Insurance Trust Fund NSITF, the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies, and that of the National Labour Advisory Council.

He assured the federal government of the readiness of Labour Unions to cooperate with government, adding that “ Labour remain committed to peace, stability and national progress”

The NLC President listed areas the organized Labour want government to pay more attention, including expansion of employment generation to absorbing the nation’s teeming unemployed youths

Others include power generation, reactivation and upgrading of the nation’s refineries as well as pipelines infrastructure.

The NLC leadership also urge government to take the diversification of the economy through agriculture as a priority, while also calling for increased funding of agricultural institutions.

They also appealed to the federal government to increase the funding of public educational institutions, as well as increase funding for upgrading of public health institutions, across the country.
