How CCECC deepens Nigeria’s infrastructure development in 40 years

The Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) said it has strengthened its capacity to build so many infrastructure projects in Nigeria in the last 40 years to develop the country and pursue the objectives of the Belt and Roads Initiative (BRI) for international connectivity as well as improved Corporate Social Responsibility.

The company made this known during a press conference to unveil its First Corporate Social Responsibility Report in Abuja on Wednesday, organized by the Centre for China Studies (CCS), an intellectual think tank led by Charles Onunaiju, which aims to strengthen the bilateral ties between Nigeria and China.

Speaking during the conference tagged “Striving with Nigeria Towards a Better Future” the CCECC Deputy Managing Director Han Shuang, said since entering the Nigerian market in 1981, CCECC has actively responded to local market demands and fully deployed its resources and business strength in providing Nigeria with high-quality services relating to infrastructure construction. He stressed that CCECC has integrated social responsibility concepts into its corporate management system.

“At the moment, the Company has launched businesses in 29 states across Nigeria, covering railways, airports, highways, bridges, municipal projects, housing projects, water projects, and so on,” he said.

He noted that Nigeria has proven to be a truly reliable partner willing and able to support prosperity and development. He said “we help Nigeria build high-quality infrastructure projects and provide quality services to local areas, and continue to deepen China-Nigeria cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.

“Insisting on localized development, CCECC Nigeria employs and trains thousands of local staff with great effort. We have realized win-win cooperation with local suppliers and subcontractors, supported local communities in improving livelihoods, and established close and deep ties with local people.”

Presenting the Report, a consultant with the CCECC, Okey Nwagbara said that CCECC makes impact by “leveraging on its business and resource strength to meet local development needs so as to support the implementation of the Nigerian National integrated Master Plan (NIIMP) and the Economic Recovery Growth Plan for 2017 -2020.’’

According to the report, the CCECC has been involved in building Multidimensional and Sustainable Transport System which includes modernization of Railways such as the Lagos-Ibadan-Abuja-Minna, Kaduna-Kano-Katsina -Madi, as well as Coastal Railways and Itakpe -Warri railway systems and their corresponding terminal station buildings. Others include Abuja and Lagos Mass Transit railways, the Lagos Badagry Expressway among others.

“In Diversifying and Boosting Investment opportunities, CCECC Nigeria Ltd continues to expand the frontiers of its business by providing engineering services for water-related and agricultural development projects and power infrastructures to boost local economic and social life of the people. The Lekki Investment Limited at the Lekki Free Zone is typical example of the Company’s efforts at driving Nigeria’s industrialization strides thereby creating job opportunities for the local people, and promoting local economy,” the report added.

Host of the event, who is the Director of CCS, Charles Onunaiju, told reporters in an interview that the CCECC has been active in driving the process of BRI, which is a convergence of global interest and human aspiration for connectivity especially in transport infrastructure.

He said “Nigeria formally signed up to BRI partnership in 2018 and BRI is about connectivity within countries across regions of the world and the CCECC as a key player in the transport sector of infrastructure connectivity has been very exemplary in most of the connectivity projects in Nigeria.

“So the CCECC is actively promoting the Belt and Roads within Nigeria and within Africa and across the world. Already it is involved in Belt and Roads projects in over 79 countries across the world. So, it is a key participant in engaging in the building of a community of shared humanity.”
