Flooding: Ogun warns developers against illegal development

The Ogun State government has warned residents as well as property developers against the illegal erection of permanent or make-shift structures on the right of ways, drainage channels and culverts.

The state government’s warning is coming against the backdrop of Seasonal Climate Predictions for 2021 made by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) on possible flooding to be witnessed in some parts of the country as the perpetrators are warned against the act, threatening to demolish such properties

Tunji Odunlami, the state commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development while reacting to the demolition of a commercial structure built on concrete drain and culvert within the setback along Lafenwa- Ayetoro road in Abeokuta, noted that the government would not tolerate insensitive act that could endanger lives and property of citizens.

Odunlami said the government was determined to follow the physical planning law of the state, noting that the property owners in the affected area, who have been served with contravention notice, should stop further construction. He reiterated the commitment of the present administration to the safety of lives and property of every resident.
