FG pledges support for States  investing in power generation, distribution

Sale Mamman, the Minister of Power,  has urged state governments to invest in power generation and distribution to supplement the efforts of the Federal Government, assuring that they would enjoy maximum support from the apex government.

The minister of power made the call after inspecting two power projects embarked upon by the Cross Rivers State Government in Calabar, a  statement issued by the Ministry on Saturday said.

The 26MW diesel-powered plant is almost completed while a 23MW gas-powered project at Tinapa is at over sixty per cent completion.

The minister of power lauded the efforts of the Cross Rivers State Government for its huge investment in the power sector and urged other state governments to emulate this effort.

Sale in the statement noted that there was enough space in the power sector for states to participate in other to provide adequate power to Nigerians.

He assured that the Federal government was ready to collaborate with and support every state willing to invest in the power sector and pledged to assist the Cross Rivers State government in its current endeavour.

Conducting the Minister round the project sites, the Cross Rivers State Governor Ben Ayade stated that apart from the two plants, the government had also initiated the construction of a 250-kilometre, 330KVA transmission line to the northern part of the State up to the Obudu Ranch to cover the entire state with adequate power supply.

The Governor stated that his ultimate plan is to make Cross Rivers State the most powered state in the country in order to make life more comfortable for the people and promote both social and economic activities.

He added that his government was ready to collaborate with the Federal government in every sphere of development especially the power sector in order to bring succour to the people.

The two power projects are being constructed by Skipper Engineering.
