FG, ASUU reconvene to end 3 month old nationwide strike

Nigerian government and striking varsity lecturers this evening reconvened to further negotiation in the bid to end the three month old nationwide strike.

Federal Government’s delegation led by Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, also includes Permanent Secretary, office of the Head of Service of the Federation; representatives of Federal Ministries of Budget and National Planning, Finance and Education as well as Salaries and Wages Commission and National University Commission (NUC).

Speaking at the opening of the negotiation, Ngige urged the striking lecturers to embrace the spirit of give-and-take in the bid to forge ahead.

In his response, Biodun Ogunyemi, ASUU President who expressed regrets over the prolonged strike, however argued that the Union was under obligation to ensure quality education for Nigerian students.

After the short addresses, both parties went into a to closed-door meeting to deliberate on outstanding issues.
