FG approves N9bn for 7 model schools, HIV drugs, FCT contracts

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) last night approved various contracts amounting to N9b. The late night FEC meeting was presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who stood in for President Muhamamdu Buhari following the President’s ten day private visit to London which is expected to expire by Sunday, 5th May, 19.

The several contracts approved included N4.6b for 7 model schools,
N1.6b for HIV drugs and N3b for contracts within federal Capital Territory, FCT.

Minister of Information who briefed State House correspondents after the six hours meeting lasting from 4pm to 10pm, said that the Council approved N4 billion for the construction of seven model schools in each of the six geopolitical zones of the country and the FCT.
The schools, he said , will be located in Katsina (Northwest); Nasarawa (North-central), Bauchi (Northeast); Imo (Southeast); Lagos (Southwest); Edo (South-South) and the FCT.

He also revealed that FEC approved the sum of N1.6 billion for the procurement of Anti Retroviral Drugs (ARV) for the treatment of the dreaded Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV ) Aids, for the National Agency for Control of AIDS, (NACA)

The council also approved the sum of N3 billion for road, sewage design and water projects in the FCT, as well as N500 million contract for the ministry of transportation for infrastructure works at the Abuja airport.
The meeting which was earlier scheduled for 11: am could not start until 4.30pm, following a visit to Lagos by the Vice President.

The meeting which had about 25 Ministers in attendance, was also attended by the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, Head of Service of the Federation, Winnifred Oyo-Ita Deputy Chief of Staff (Office of the Vice President).

The next and probably the final Cabinet meeting under the current dispensation which the Information Minister, Lai Mohammed tagged “ Valedictory FEC meeting” has been scheduled for the 22nd of May, 2019.
