Day 5: Lagos protesters defy hoodlums’ attack, resume protest at Ojota despite Tinubu’s appeal

Dozens of protesters on Monday returned to the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in the Ojota area of Lagos State for the continuation of the #EndBadGovernance protest.

This comes barely 24 hours after the demonstrators were chased from the protest grounds by hoodlums. In the video circulating on social media, the thugs were seen chasing the peaceful protesters with cutlasses and sticks.

President Bola Tinubu, in his address to the nation on Sunday, appealed to the protesters, who have been on the streets since Thursday, to end the demonstration, saying “I have heard you loud and clear.”

While some yielded to the plea, others remained adamant, arguing that the president failed to address their demands in his speech.

The planned 10-day protests, which kicked off in major cities across the country last week, is on its fifth day.

The demonstrators, driven by grievances over economic hardship, high food prices, and the removal of fuel subsidies, continue to demand changes.

Other demands include immediate reforms of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), along with renewed efforts to combat corruption among politicians.
