Having received a total of 100,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines deployed by the Federal Government for immunization of residents of the state, the Ogun state government says it has so far used 59,000 doses to vaccinate residents.
Elijah Ogunsola, Executive Secretary, State Primary Health Care Board, who stated this during an interview with some journalists in Abeokuta, noted that the State is set to administer the second doses to healthcare workers, strategic leaders, among others that form the frontline workers who had received the first jabs.
He said, “Presently in Ogun State, over 59,000 people comprising health workers, strategic leaders and other frontline workers have been administered with COVID-19 vaccines, in accordance with the directives of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency.”

Ogunsola, while explaining that the State is strategic in administering the vaccines, added that it did not go beyond the stipulated 10 days vaccination period since it had complied with strict distribution guidelines.
He said the State was able to allay the fears of people through vaccination of policymakers such as Governor Dapo Abiodun and Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele, paramount rulers and chiefs, former governors, as well as the Nobel laureate and Professor of Drama and Comparative Literature, Wole Soyinka, among others.
He however enjoined residents that had taken the first doses to keep vaccination cards as evidence for the second doses, just as he assured residents who are 50 years and above and those with underlining ailments such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and so on, would be programmed to receive their jabs in the second phase of the campaign.
