Calabar Port if functional will serve S/East, N/Central, Chad, Cameroon – CALCIMA

President of Calabar Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, Eta Ndoma-Egba has inaugurated a 15-member Stakeholders Advocacy Committee headed by David Etim as chairman and Kenneth Asim Ita as the executive secretary of (CALCIMA). Other members of the Committee include Annie Iton of BrightFlow Logistics, representatives of Nigerian Shippers Council, Nigerian Ports Authority, Nigerian Customs Service, ECM Terminals and Shola Sareode of Hul Blyth Ltd.

He said the Committee will help Hull Blythn and ECM Terminals to drive import and export traffic to the Port and the feeder services, the committee will among other things galvanise shippers for both inbound and outbound trades, advocate for ultimate achievement of making Calabar Port the leader for ease of doing business among Nigerian Ports.

According to the President of the Chamber, “We have realised the need to create this kind of multi-sectoral and multistakeholders’ platform for collaboration to help drive the re-activation and sustainability of regular shipping services and traffic to Calabar Port.”

He noted that “Ports, all over the world, are gateways to trade, and commerce are known to thriving cities, but the same he said cannot be said for Calabar Port, this according to him really has often times in the past galvanised stakeholders here gathered to explore avenues to change this narrative.

He revealed that the rationale for the approach is to leverage on individual strength and capacities of the selected stakeholders to achieve the objective of effectively marketing the feeder services, drive patronage for both the port and the feeder service.

He said Calabar Port remain a viable alternative gateway for trade and commerce in and out of Nigeria given its strategic location and advantage in serving not just the South East, but also Chad, Cameroon, North Central .
