Boko Haram kills one of 6 abducted aid workers in Borno

Boko Haram fighters on Wednesday reportedly killed one of the six humanitarian staff working for a nongovernmental organization, Action Against Hunger (AAH), who were abducted in the month of July in Borno.
The six AAH staff were travelling to deliver humanitarian assistance to IDP-returnees at Damask town when they were forcefully taken away by Boko Haram fighters.
A statement posted by AAH on its website, seen by BusinessDay, reads: “Action Against Hunger condemns in the strongest terms this assassination and urgently calls for the release of the hostages, reminding them that they were present in the north-east of the country only to help the most vulnerable.”
According to the international NGO, the deceased was among six abducted humanitarian field workers comprising an employee of AAH, two drivers and three health personnel of the Ministry of Health.
“Action Against Hunger is extremely concerned and is fully mobilised to ensure that the remaining hostages can be quickly and safely reunited with their families. Action Against Hunger also requests that the public respect the dignity of the victim and the privacy of the families by not sharing images or videos that may circulate on the Internet,” the statement said.
AAH was recently banned by the military from operating in three states most affected by Boko Haram – Yobe, Adamawa and Borno.
