Be patient, Nigeria will be better – former minister

Adebayo Shittu, a former minister of communication has expressed optimism that Nigeria is on the path of recovery, saying the government needs time.

Shittu, appearing as a guest on a program on Channels Television Tuesday said he believes President Bola Tinubu will achieve more as the leader of the country than he did as governor of Lagos.

“We need to be patient. By the time he’s celebrating his first year, I want to believe he will have a lot to tell Nigerians,” the former minister said.

Shittu served as the minister of communication between 2015 to 2019 under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

The Nigerian lawyer noted that nation-building takes time and organisation, imploring the over 200 million people to be hopeful.

Reacting to the rising cost of living, Shittu said food prices keep soaring due to some Nigerian factors as greed and compromises.

“We’re all going through hard times, including me. But I have learned to be patient,” the former minister said.

“In another two to three months, Nigeria will be better than it is today,” he added.

Nigerians are grappling with the scourge of record-high inflation which has pushed the cost of food items to a limit, eroding the purchasing power of the people.

Beyond food crises, the citizens are spending more on procuring petrol as scarcity bites hard. In the past week, filling stations were crowded with individuals scrambling to fill their tanks.

May 29 will mark a year after Tinubu took over the helm of affairs of the country with many of his policies in the past months under scrutiny.
