Abia rural community drinks from Rotary Club’s milk of kindness

You cannot be a Rotarian but behave like a crook or an idiot

In line with its humanitarian disposition, Rotary Club of Eziukwu-Aba has renovated and equipped Umunkpeyi Community Health Centre, in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State with modern facilities and drugs.
The Club in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Dayton, United States of America, its international partners, also built three modern laboratories for Chemistry, Physics and Biology for Nvosi High School, also in Umunkpeyi.
They also provided solar energy powered borehole and modern water system toilet facilities for the staff and students of the school.

Oji James, the school principal, who was excited with the gesture from the Rotary Club of Eziukwu-Aba, commended the club for its efforts towards improving teaching and learning in the school.
In his words, “Your efforts in advancing the teaching of science and technology just as it is obtained in advanced countries, cannot go unrewarded. We promised to safeguard and effectively make use of these facilities to the best of our ability.
“Already by the provision of water in the school, we have started homestead fish farming, as part of our entrepreneurial studies in the school.
He appealed to the State Ministry of Education to send Science teachers to the school to enable the students to effectively make use of the modern lab equipment.

He equally appealed to the state government and members of the community to employ security men to guard the facilities as well as help the school to repair some dilapidated school buildings and build a functional library for them.
Esther Kanu, representative of the permanent secretary, Ministry of Health, Abia State, described the projects as wonderful.
“I feel very happy seeing people use their resources to better the lives of others; I want Rotary Club to continue to care for others and show love to humanity and I know that they will never lose their reward,” she said.
She urged the Nvosi community to take care of the facilities and send their children to the school, where they will be taught, by qualified teachers.
She also urged them to patronise the health centre that was renovated and equipped.
Humphrey Okorie, president, Rotary Club Eziukwu-Aba, explained that the club was fulfilled having succeeded in putting smiles on faces of the people they didn’t know.

“Judging from the kind of reception accorded us today, shows that the community is very excited for what we have done. Rotary is known for doing good to society and helping the less privileged in the society”, he said.
He advised the beneficiaries to utilise the facilities provided for them and ensure that they are well maintained to serve them for a long time.
Innocent Obianozie, a member of Rotary Club of Eziukwu-Aba, expressed fulfilment that Rotary Club could touch the lives of the students, saying Rotary is all about giving to improve the welfare of people and the less privileged in the society.
Onuoha Ogba commended the Community for accepting Rotary international with Joy and appealed to them to ensure that they utilize all facilities provided, to improve the standard of learning in the School and health care needs of members of the community.
The chair of the new generation of the club said he felt relieved that the project which started some few years back has been completed.
Loveday Promise, a student of the benefiting school, commended the Rotary Club for donating the facilities to the school, stressing that the facilities would ease teaching and learning in the school.
Earlier, members of the Rotary Club conducted an oral health promotion, where they educated the students on how to maintain healthy teeth to avoid mouth odour.
Rotary International is an international service organisation, whose stated purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders, to provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and to advance goodwill and peace around the world.
It is a non-political and non-sectarian organisation that is open to all people, regardless of race, colour, creed, religion, gender, or political preference.
Rotary Club has 34,282 member clubs worldwide with 1.2 million individuals, known as Rotarians, as members.
