H1’21 earnings season: Here are likely ‘early birds’

As equity investors shift focus to the half-year (H1) earnings season, it is important to know the ‘early bird’ companies that will likely release their results on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) ahead of others.

Interestingly, majority of these companies have commenced their Closed Periods ahead of their Board of Directors meetings to approve their second quarter (Q2) results.

A closed period is the time between the completion of a listed company’s financial results and the announcing of these results to the public. During this period, all insiders and related persons are restricted from trading the company’s shares.

While many companies currently prepare to release their H1’2021 financial result, most of them will approach the market with cheering pronouncement like interim dividend to reward shareholders, others will not.
Despite that the equities market took off this week on a negative note, it will still see a rebound as investors anticipate good scorecards from the H1 earnings results of companies.

MRS Oil Nigeria Plc

MRS will likely be among the ‘early birds’ to release their second-quarter 2021 results on the Nigerian Exchange Limited. In line with the post-listing requirements of the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), the Board of Directors of MRS will meet on Thursday July 29, 2021 to deliberate on the second quarter unaudited financial statements of the company amongst other things.

Consequently, the company’s closed period started from Thursday July 1, 2021 till twenty-four (24) hours after the filing of the Q2 financial statement at the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX). All Insiders and related persons of MRS are prohibited from trading in the Company’s shares during this closed period.

Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc (GTCO)

Also, the Board of Directors of GTCO will meet on Wednesday July 28 to consider the audited financial statement for the half year ended June 30, 2021. Issues relating to half-year dividend may also be discussed at the meeting. In compliance with the NGX post listing requirement, the closed period for trading in the company’s shares by insiders commenced on July 1 and will expire 24 hours after the announcement of the results.

NASCON

The Board of directors of NASCON Allied Industries Plc will meet on Monday July 26 to review and approve the quarter-two results of the company. The company’s closed period commenced on July 1, prohibiting insiders and those handling managerial responsibilities from trading in its shares.

Zenith Bank

The Board of Directors of Zenith Bank Plc will meet on Friday July 23 to consider the Group’s audited financial statement for the half year ended June 30, 2021. The meeting will also consider among others, the proposal for recommendation of interim dividend for shareholders. Zenith Bank’s closed period commenced on July 1.

FBN Holdings

The Board of Directors of FBN Holdings will meet on Thursday, July 29 to consider the unaudited half-year accounts of the holding company. Its closed period commenced since July 1.

Okomu Oil Palm

Likewise, the Board of Directors of Okomu Oil Palm Plc are meeting on same Thursday July 29 to consider among other things 2021 second-quarter unaudited financial statement of the company for the period ended June 30. Also, its closed period commenced since July 1.

Chams Plc

Chams Plc informed the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) and the investing public that its Board of Directors Meeting holds on Thursday, July 22, 2021 to consider among other things the unaudited financial Statement for the period ended June 30, 2021. In compliance with NGX’s Listing requirements, Chams Plc commenced its closed period on July 1 for trading in its shares by directors, employees, advisers, consultants and any other person(s) with insider’s information and their connected persons until 24 hours after the announcement of the outcome of the meeting and the unaudited half year account for the period ended June 30, 2021 has been published to the market.

Berger Paints Nigeria Plc

Berger Paints Nigeria Plc Board of Directors will be meeting on Thursday, July 29, 2021 to, amongst other matters, consider the Company’s 2021 second quarter unaudited financial statements. Accordingly, a ‘Closed Period’ is being observed since Thursday, July 1, 2021, until the financial statements are filed with the Exchange. All insiders, or their connected persons, are not allowed to deal in the securities of Berger Paints Nigeria Plc within this period.

NAHCO

A meeting of the Board of Directors of Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc (NAHCO) is scheduled to hold on July 29 to consider and approve the company’s quarter-two financial statement. The company’s closed period prohibiting insiders and those handling managerial responsibilities from trading in its shares commenced since on July 1.

GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Nigeria Plc (GSK)

The meeting of the Board of Directors of GSK will be held on Wednesday July 28, 2021 to among others approve the company’s six months un-audited results for the period ended June 30, 2021.

UAC of Nigeria Plc

The Board of Directors of UAC of Nigeria Plc (UACN) scheduled its meeting on Wednesday July 28, 2021 to consider and approve the Unaudited Financial Statements for second-quarter (Q2) 2021, which ended on Wednesday June 30, 2021.

In compliance with NSE Listing Requirements, and the amendments to the Listing Rules, UAC of Nigeria Plc commenced a closed period for trading in its shares by Directors, Employees, Advisers, Consultants, and any other persons with insider information and their connected persons, from Thursday, July 1, 2021, until 24 hours after the Q2 2021 unaudited accounts have been announced to the market.

Ecobank Transnational Incorporated

The meeting of the Board of Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) will hold on Friday July 23 to consider the second-quarter unaudited accounts of ETI for the period ended June 30. The bank’s closed period started on July 1 and continues till 24 hours after the publication of the unaudited accounts on the NGX.

Ikeja Hotel Plc

A Board meeting of Ikeja Hotel Plc holds via tele-conferencing on Thursday, July 22, 2021 to receive and consider among other business, the Second Quarter Financial Statements of the Company for the period ended June 30, 2021. Consequently, and pursuant to Rule 17.18 of the Rulebook of the Nigerian Exchange Limited, Ikeja Hotel Plcon Thursday July 1, 2021 commenced a closed period, thereby restricting director, persons discharging managerial responsibilities, and advisers of the Company and their connected persons from dealing in the securities of the Company till 24 hours after the results of the company have been submitted to The Exchange.

FCMB Group

The Board of Directors’ meeting of FCMB Group Plc holds on Friday, July 23, 2021 via Microsoft Teams. The meeting is the regular quarterly meeting to consider the 2021 second-quarter (Q2) performance report of the Group. In line with the amended rules of the Nigerian Exchange Limited on closed period, the Company commenced the closed period for trading in the Company’s shares from July 1, 2021 in respect of the Unaudited Financial Statements for the quarter ended June 30, 2021 until 24 hours after the publication of the Financial Statements.

Fidelity Bank

The board of directors of Fidelity Bank Plc will meet on August 6 to consider and approve the audited financial statement of the bank for the half year ended June 30. A closed period relating to trading in the shares of the bank commenced on July 1.

Total Nigeria Plc

The Board of Directors of Total Nigeria Plc will meet on July 19, 2021 to among other businesses consider the declaration of an interim dividend. Pursuant to Clause 17.18 of the Amendments to the Listings Rules (the “Rules”) of NGX, the closed period earlier announced remains effective from July 1 until 24 hours after the decisions taken at the Board meeting are made public and the unaudited financial statements for the period ended 30 June 2021 is released to the public.

Champion Breweries

The meeting of Champion Breweries Plc’s Board of Directors holds on Thursday, July 29, to among other items, review and approve the Unaudited Financial Statements of the Company for the period ended June 30, 2021. IN line with the provisions of Rule 17.18(a): Closed Period, Rulebook of the Exchange, 2015 (Issuers’ Rule) as amended, the Company commenced a Closed Period from Thursday, July 1 2021, until 24 hours after the Unaudited Financial Statements of the Company for the period ended June 30, 2021, is released to the public, thereby restricting all directors, persons discharging managerial responsibility, advisers of the Company and their connected persons from dealing in the shares of the Company.
