Veterinary Medical Association urges Ododo to establish livestock ministry in Kogi

The Nigeria Veterinary Medical Association, (NVMA) Kogi State Chapter has called for the establishment of the Ministry of Livestock Development in the state.

Tolu Omotugba, chairman of NVMA in Kogi State, said that while briefing newsmen in Lokoja, also called on the state governor to consider the appointment of a credible Veterinarian as its commissioner, when the ministry is created.

“As key stakeholders in the livestock industry and given the significant and growing population of livestock in Kogi State, we seize this opportunity to call on His Excellency to leverage the newly-created Ministry of Livestock Development by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration.

“We advocate for the establishment of a similar Ministry in Kogi State and the appointment of a credible Veterinarian as its commissioner,” Omotugba said.

The group commended the state Governor, Usman Ahmed Ododo for approving and prompt implementation of the 2021 Revised Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) for their members within the Kogl State Civil Service.

The statement read in part said: “Following the resolutions reached at our recently concluded executive meeting, we wish to address several important matters.

“First, we extend our profound gratitude to the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Ododo, for his approval and prompt implementation of the 2021 Revised Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) for our members within the Kogl State Civil Service.

“This gesture underscores the Governor’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of Kog State workers and his recognition of the pivotal role the Veterinary profession plays in the state’s economic prosperity.”

He noted that the approval and implementation has motivated their members to carry out their duties with renewed enthusiasm and the highest level of dedication, as he called on the governor to utilise his esteemed office to ensure the prompt payment of the accumulated arrears of two months since the implementation in January, 2021 of the salary structure.
