At least, four farmers have been killed on their farmlands by Boko Haram terrorists at a border town in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The incident, which caused tension in the community, occurred Thursday evening when the farmers were attacked on their farmlands.
Bukar Aji, councillor of Kirawa Jimini Ward and Speaker of Gwoza Local Government Council, described the incident as unfortunate and called on security agencies to prioritise the protection of the people.
“This is a devastating blow to our community. We urge the security agencies to take immediate action to ensure the safety of our people,” Aji said.
Yakubu Mabba Ali, chairman of Kirawa Development Association, also condemned the attack, describing it as “barbaric” and urged the government to take decisive action to end the insurgency.
“The government must do more to protect our communities from these terrorists. We cannot continue to live in fear of attacks every day. This sad incident must stop,” he lamented.
The attack is the latest in a series of terrorist attacks on rural communities in Borno State, which have been ravaged by insurgency for over a decade.
The Nigerian military has been battling Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East region for many years now, but the group continues to carry out attacks on civilians and military targets.
