Templars partner and former chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association Section on Business Law (NBA-SBL), Olumide Akpata, was on Friday officially sworn in as the president of the  NBA at the just-concluded Virtual Annual General Meeting of the Bar.

The swearing-in was done by the outgone NBA president, Paul Usoro, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

With Akpata’s swearing-in, the Usoro-led administration has come to an end.

Akpata, who was declared the winner of the presidential race by the ECNBA on July 31, 2020, will steer the affairs of the Bar for the next two years.

Giving his inaugural speech, Akpata recognised the glitches and flaws in the election e-voting system and pledged to introduce an efficient data management system for the NBA.

“To follow up on our electioneering promises, we would also ensure that other institutional and structural reforms that would enable NBA to serve the benefit of its members and the society are also put in place,” Akpata said.

“In the wake of the criticisms that trailed the election, this is now a top priority issue for me,” he said.
