To promote and develop IT skills in women entrepreneurs, OMATEK Computers plc has donated five desktop computers to NNEW, the women’s network under the Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA).
The donation of the five OMATEK Explore 1 desktop systems was announced by Florence Seriki, group managing director, OMATEK Ventures plc at the sixth annual general meeting of the network called the NECA Network of Entrepreneurial Women (NNEW), held in Lagos recently.
Odunsanya Olayemi, group channel head, sales, OMATEK, who delivered the items, said the donation was part of the OMATEK’s corporate social responsibility initiatives.
Lola Okanlawon, NNEW president, said “it is vital for every woman entrepreneur to be IT compliant in order to compete favourably at any given level.” According to her, businesses in this present dispensation should have online presence to attract a wider range of consumers, both within and outside one’s locality.
She said the NNEW Resource Centre would among other things serve as a centre for the network members to carry out research on their businesses, update their IT skills, market their products and services online and receive training generally.
NNEW is a network committed to empowering women to embrace entrepreneurship and prosper in their businesses. It was established under the aegis of Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) to create a platform for women to focus on issues that are crucial to the thriving of their businesses as well as advocate for an enabling environment that will facilitate the sustenance.
Since its establishment in 2005 in Lagos with an initial membership base of 20, the network has succeeded in registering about 450 members, with an additional branch in Abuja and a new chapter in Port Harcourt, which would be launched soon.
