School principal advocates sponsorship for less-privileged children

The principal Federal Government Girls College  (FGGC) Jalingo, Ziporah Kendo, on Saturday advocated sponsorship for less privileged children who are willing to acquire Western education.

This was as she said Nigeria’s northeast region was lagging behind in student enrolment in the Unity Schools across the country.

Kendo disclosed this at the 17th graduation and Prize Giving Day held at the school premises in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.

The principal explained that nongovernmental organisations, civil society groups, and well-meaning individuals could take up the challenge by selecting the best students from primary schools for sponsorship, adding that by so doing the northeast would be able to compete favourably with other zones in student enrolment.

She appreciated the Federal Ministry of Education for its support in various aspects, including renovation of staff quarters, fencing of the Hadeja and Taraba hostels, re-enforcement of the college perimeter fence, among others. She, however, appealed for the construction of water reticulation in the staff quarters and other dilapidated structures in the institution.

BusinessDay gathered that FGGC Jalingo, established 24 years ag, has trained students who are excelling in various sectors of life both in Nigeria and beyond.
