A protest is currently unfolding at J.S. Tarka University of Makurdi (JOSTUM), following the kidnapping of four female students from the institution’s female hostel on Wednesday. In response, students gathered at the university premises on Thursday, to voice their concerns.
In a video shared by eyewitnesses, Isaac Itodo, the vice-chancellor of JOSTUM, was seen addressing the students alongside the former Students Union President. He urged the protesters to remain patient as the university was actively gathering information about the incident.

The Vice-Chancellor reassured students that the university would take all necessary measures to ensure the safe return of the abducted students. He also emphasized that the situation required careful security assessments, noting that he could not make predictions without the full facts.
In an effort to prioritise safety, the university has announced a one-week break for students in light of the recent events, aiming to prevent further incidents. Despite this, the protesters, dissatisfied with the decision, were seen chanting and expressing their intent to continue their demonstration, according to eyewitness reports.
Joseph Olasan, a lecturer in the Department of Plant Science and Biotechnology, commented on the situation, acknowledging that the student protests were anticipated due to the abrupt break. However, he assured that normal activities at the university would soon resume.
