The Lagos State Government in partnership with Allen Foundation is set to launch a special capacity building programme for secondary school students in the state.

The initiative which will take place across three zones in the state will equip the students with vocational, digital, and creative skills.

The programme is deeply rooted in the drive to create sustainable empowerment that will enable participants to gain a sense of direction for their career and future goals.

“The future lies in our ability to identify and encourage young people in their teenage years. When I was at this phase of my life, I was confused and could not choose a career path,” said Lekan Oluwayomi, convener of the program.

“This program aims to empower young people with understanding new trends and alternative career paths that didn’t exist ten to fifteen years ago,” Oluwayomi said.

He noted that the progrmme will open the students’ eyes to a plethora of choices in their career paths. “In line with the vision of the Lagos state government to make Lagos the creative industry capital of Africa by the year 2025, this carefully thought-out collaboration will stir participants to think in that direction.”

The training, which will last for four weeks, will focus on senior secondary school students. The facilitators will show expertise on the subjects, discussing practical steps that the participants can understand at their level. Afterward, the three best graduating students will get starter kits and financial rewards to aid their career goals. All participants will also get notebooks from the foundation.

Similarly, Damilare Fakorede, programme officer, Allen Foundation expressed gratitude regarding the partnership of his organization and the Lagos state government.

“I thank the Lagos state government for this opportunity. The Allen Foundation is happy to take on this challenge of impacting lives in the. I am convinced beyond reasonable doubt that this training will touch a lot of lives,” he said.

Allen foundation is a community-based organisation established to address social, economic, and environmental challenges and associated the vulnerable across the African continent.
