Jobberman Nigeria appoints Rolake Rosiji as CEO

Jobberman, a Nigerian-based job placement platform has appointed Rolake Rosiji, former country manager of M-KOPA as its new chief executive officer.

The new CEO will be taking over from Hilda Kragha who is now the managing director of ROAM Africa Jobs.

According to a statement BusinessDay received, Rosiji is expected to continue the work of establishing Jobberman as the primary platform for job searching, talent acquisition, and transforming workplace productivity across Nigeria.

While the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has been mostly negative on many businesses and seen many workers laid off, it has however been positive for online-based businesses as it has encouraged more people to embrace digital space. The pandemic has also pushed the Nigerian economy into a recession which is expected to drive up the number of unemployed people in the country. The unemployment rate in the country rose to 27 percent in the second quarter of 2020 from 23 percent in the third quarter of 2018. The economy is expected to recover at 1.1 percent which could see more companies resume their recruitment activities. Online recruitment is projected to lead most of the activities, hence platforms like Jobberman would likely benefit from the slow but gradual recovery.

Jobberman says it already connects over 1 million job seekers to employers. The company leverages technology to match talented candidates with jobs according to their skillset.

Jobberman was acquired in 2012 by ROAM Africa to build on the work of the company’s founders who have all exited the business. In September 2020, Jobberman acquired NG Careers 100 percent in a deal that unites two of Nigeria’s most notable internet-based recruitment agencies.

“I look forward to steering the company’s vision to build a market of greater technology adoption, democratic access, and transparency that will tackle dominant challenges, notably youth unemployment, and underemployment,” Rosiji said. “It is a privilege for me to be at the helm of this dynamic team as we set out to empower job seekers with key skills and improve workplace productivity for employers in Nigeria.”

In her role as CEO, Rosiji would be expected to broaden Jobberman’s impact beyond the white-collar space and continue to work closely with the company’s impact partners in tackling youth unemployment in Nigeria.

Rosiji is coming to the position after successfully leading the technology and sales operations for credit financed smartphones and solar power sets as Country Manager of M-KOPA Nigeria, a connected asset financing company that makes financing for everyday essentials accessible to everyone. Before M-KOPA, she was head of Strategy and Business Development for Arla Foods Africa, where she developed distribution and joint venture partnerships across West Africa to rapidly scale up sales and worked in corporate roles in Denmark and the USA.

“I am delighted that Rolake has taken on this position. Rolake’s expertise, understanding of different markets, and high performance are what makes her the perfect person to anchor the next phase for Jobberman. I look forward to working with her to take Jobberman to even greater heights,” Hilda Kragha, managing director of ROAM Africa Jobs said.

Rosiji’s tenure as CEO kicks off on February 1.
