Fast-rising and prolific talented acts Isaac Obasuyi and Adindu Linus Nnamdi popularly and jointly known as Playaz said the environment is a major influence to their sound as artistes.
The duo announced their emergence on the music scene in 2019 with the successful popular slang mad Oh which gave them a huge leverage in the music industry and followed up with another hit for the ladies Show Dem.
Playaz got everybody’s attention with the viral songs Mad Oh and Show Dem, however the huge success of both singles has aided their existence in the Nigerian music industry. Mad Oh remix featuring Zlatan Ibile is debuted off Playaz’s debut Extended Play (EP), ‘PlaySound.’
Following the validating reception of both singles, Playaz said that the PlaySound EP contained other songs like I wonder, Color, and Fenty which is to be released soon to rubber-stamped the endorsement of their talent.
On what went into the making of Mad Oh and Show Dem, which have become one of the successful hits on the airwave, Playaz said the track, Mad Oh was made as a freestyle but it turned out to be everybody’s favourite and a trendy slang.
“Mad Oh literally made impact after a collaborative EP with former Five Star artiste Xbusta, we decided to put up a ‘vibe’ which was not too serious, so we’re glad for the growth,” the duo said.
So far, the song has garnered more than 2 million streams on all streaming platforms giving the duo a promising good start. The song further received a boost in acceptance after the slang Mad Oh was used by famous American female rapper Cardi-B.
Isaac Obasuyi and Adindu Linus Nnamdi, both known as Gabana Playaz and Lynox Playaz, respectively are both born into a family with deep musical roots.
Gabana Playaz was an outstanding drummer in his early teens and also majored into playing the guitar which helped him make significant contribution in his church choir, while Lynox Playaz’s father, a percussionist and also a traditional dancer, had a great influence in his music style.
Playaz have a blend of Afro-fusion, a blend of Afrobeat and Afro Dance.
As gifted artistes with uncanny ability to exist in their space, even when circling around the afro-fusion tag that has seen a recent rise in adaptability, the promising duo left many music enthusiasts to tip them up to be nominated in Scream Award as best new artiste in 2020.
“We started out together to work as a duo in 2016 as song writers and also producers. Working with a lot of prominent artiste in the music scene. I think that’s where the whole thing comes from, to be able to manage our own craft and also locate a distinct sound,” they said on career trajectory.
They further described their sound as afro-fusion and afro-dance, but stated their displeasure at being boxed in a type of way of creating music.
“We don’t like being boxed in some type of way. We’re not that kind of artiste. There are so many influences to our music. Our environment is also a major key role,” Playaz said.
Commenting on the effects of COVID-19 on their business and regularly programme schedule, the group said they are certain that their team puts the business out there and they make sure they get the music available to everyone. The group who is currently managed by Dre Cesar management.
