Okowa seeks wealthy Nigerians support in tackling insecurity, others

Delta Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has called on wealthy Nigerians to emulate Jim Ovia’s example and support the government’s efforts at fighting insecurity and other challenges in the country.

Okowa made the call at the inauguration of the Area Command Office and Officers Quarters, Nigeria Police Force, donated by Jim Ovia Foundation at Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of the state.

Ovia, a native of Agbor in Delta State is the founder of the Jim Ovia Foundation as well as the founder and pioneer chief executive officer (CEO) of the Zenith Bank Plc in the country.

The inauguration of newly built area command officers quarters took place a day to the ‘Celebration of Life’ ceremony of the late Pa Arthur Okorie, father of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, held Saturday, August 21, 2021.

Okowa said that there were lots of security and other challenges facing the country that the government alone could not handle.

Okowa while commending the foundation for building and donating the facility, expressed excitement at the project.

“It is good to have this type of serene environment for a police command and I am truly happy and appreciate you.

“Too many things need to be done but the government cannot do them alone, that is why we keep calling on well-meaning individuals to find a way to help.

“This is not the first time you are coming to our aid and I am told that there are many more to be done.

“The good thing is that when a son of the soil is doing well, the only thing is to pray for him and request that he does more.

“So obviously, with the very good thing we are seeing here today, we are obviously going to be requesting more and more and please don’t get tired of us,” he said.

Okowa said that the environment was very welcoming even though nobody prays to go to the police station.

“We are glad you have donated this for the officers and men of the police force to do their work very well.

“We want to say thank you for this because it will be a befitting place for our officers to sit and do their work.

“We will continue to pray for our brothers and sisters who have excelled in many places to be able to return home to help to improve the lives of our people,” he stated.

Earlier, the donor of the facility, Jim Ovia, lauded Governor Okowa for his outstanding accomplishments in the state, adding that the Governor had performed creditably well in the comity of governors.

He said he was motivated to embark on the project because of the security challenges in the area and promised to do more for the community.

“We have made this little contribution towards ensuring security, law and order so that our community and state can be safe for our people to live their lives comfortably.

“We will do more in the area of education and security to better the lives of our people,” he added.

On his part, Managing Director of Zenith Bank Plc, Ebenezer Onyeagwu, lauded Jim Ovia Foundation for the donation, adding that it will help improve the security and lives of the people of the area.

The Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ari, commended Jim Ovia Foundation for the kind gesture, noting that the magnificent edifice was indeed a heart-warming one.

He implored all spirited individuals to reciprocate the kind gesture of Jim Ovia not just to the police but to other sectors.
