Ibikunle Amosun

Having demolished buildings and other properties across three senatorial districts of Ogun state in order to give way for roads and overhead bridges construction, Governor Ibikunle Amosun has so far disbursed N9.5 billion out of N11 billion that was earmarked for compensation.

Recall that several buildings and properties had been demolished across the state between 2012 and 2019 purposely to set up ground for the state urban renewal projects embarked on by Governor Ibikunle Amosun with a view to upgrading existing and create new infrastructures.

Speaking during inspection of some road projects in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital on Thursday, the governor assured demolished properties owners that had not received compensation to exercise some patience as additional N1 billion would soon be released for those concerned.

He noted that the N9.5 billion compensation so far disbursed was paid out of total the N11 billion earmarked for the purpose, saying: “with the new N1 billion to be released, it would now be N10.5 billion and it will remain N500 million”.

He added, ‘’As a government with human face and knowing full well that those whose properties were demolished are our people, I want to assure our people that we will pay all compensation before we leave.”

The Governor stated that the affected people at new demolition in Ilogbo-Iju, Ogun west and Adigbe-Onikoko, Ogun central, would also be covered, just as he urged homeowners in the state to cultivate the habit of securing land title documents for their properties.

He concluded that “the incoming Governor by God’s grace, will be more pushy in providing more infrastructure because there are lot of our cities that still need these infrastructural development.”
