NASS, Presidency cooperation panacea for National development – Lawan

Ahmed Lawan

The National Assembly and the Presidency will continue their mutual cooperation for the development of the country and the success of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

Senate Leader Ahmed Lawan disclosed this on Tuesday during a visit to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said that it was important for the two tiers of government to maintain their dialogue and consultations in order to deliver government promises to Nigerians.

“It behoves (on) both the legislature and the executive to work together, to consult as widely and as deeply as possible all the time.

“And that is what we are trying to do.

“And I want to assure you and the general public that the National Assembly and particularly the Senate will always work with the executive arm of government in total support of Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to ensure that we deliver to Nigerians our campaign promises.’’

Lawan said that the Presidency and the National Assembly would stick to the APC policy of continuous engagement in order to avoid working at cross purpose.

“This is our administration and the Vice President is the Vice President in APC and I represent the APC as the Senate Leader.

“It is our policy to continue to engage so that we don’t work at cross purposes and that we streamline our activities to ensure that we deliver the dividends of democracy to Nigerians.

“I have come in company of my colleague, the Deputy Senate Leader, Sen. Bala Na’Allah.

“We were mandated by the Senate leadership to come and consult with our Vice President,’’ he said.

Lawan said that the visit enabled the Senate delegation and Vice President to have very fruitful and productive discussions on issues of national interest.
