World Bank approves N6.9bn to tackle Anambra erosion

The World Bank has set aside N6.9 billion for the control of erosion sites at Nnewi Ichi, Nnewi Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra State. The World Bank intervention would be in partnership with Anambra State government to ensure speedy and effective delivery in line with specification.

Governor Willie Obiano, who said this at Anaedo Square, Nnewi, noted that it was regrettable that erosion had become a threat to lives of the people, as many had relocated from their ancestral homes.

“My administration paid N1 billion as counterpart contribution to avoid delay. I am currently working on 37 roads in the LGAs, some of which have been completed.

“The communities in Nnewi North and South will from this weekend enjoy 16 hours power supply daily because of the expansion of the Obosi injection power substation embarked on by my administration. This is in addition to commencement of work at erosion sites immediately after the rain, to give the people reasons to live,” Obiano said.

He, however, called on the people to continue supporting his second-term bid to enable him consolidates on the existing works he had started.

A former Nigerian ambassador to Spain, Bianca Ojukwu, commended the people for the massive support to APGA as a commitment handed to them by late Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu.

Also speaking, the former Governor of Anambra State, Virgy Etiaba, said Anambra was presently taking the lead in many positive areas because of the vision of Governor Obiano and Ndi Nnewi were strongly behind him.

In their separate reactions, a former minister of health, Tim Menakaya, the APGA national chairman, Victor Oye, the chairman of the governor’s re-election campaign committee, Victor Umeh, and the chairman, Willie Obiano Support Group, Jude Emechetta, highlighted the various achievements of the Obiano administration in Nnewi North.

They pointed out that it was only proper that Obiano be given second term to enable him consolidate on the good works he was doing in transforming the state.
