Lekki Concession Company (LCC), operators of the Lekki Tollgate Plaza in Lagos, on Friday refused to tender the video footage of the Lekki shooting before the investigative panel, saying it could only do so if its lawyer was present at the panel sitting.
The LCC also hinted of the possible damage of the CCTV cameras at the Lekki Tollgate where the shooting of the peaceful #EndSARS protesters, allegedly by the military, took place on the night of October 20, 2020.
The Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Police Brutality and Restitution set up by the Lagos State government resumed sitting on Friday, October 30, presided over by retired Justice Doris Okuwobi.
Officials of the LCC were at the panel on Friday to testify to what they know about what happened at the tollgate when the military opened fire on the protesters.
Testifying at the panel, the managing director/CEO of LCC, Yomi Omomuwasan, accompanied by another staff, confirmed that they were in possession of the video footage of the Lekki tollgate shooting.
But when asked to submit the video, they said the company could only do so if their lawyer was present.
The panel chair, Okuwobi, therefore called for an on-the-spot assessment of the incident venue where the LCC MD took the panel members round the torched tollgate.
Omomuwasan told the panel members that the cameras were on top of the tollgate and that they were never switched off.
When asked if the full record of what happened had been captured, the LCC boss said they could not confirm that, because at some point the cameras were damaged.
The LCC said the cameras would automatically stop working once they were damaged.
The panel members also visited Military Hospital in Ikoyi in an effort to ascertain whether there were patients with gunshot wounds on admission.
