About 100 children from three local government areas of Ogun State are to benefit from an empowerment project to be sponsored by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC).
The project is one of the measures being put in place to address issues bothering on different forms of child labour in the society, as the need to stop child abuse-related challenges informed the agency’s decision to seek further partnership with its development partners, such as the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
Joseph Famakin, zonal commander of the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and other Related Offences (NAPTIP) in Lagos, dropped this hint when he led other officials of the agency on a courtesy visit to the Management of the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in Abeokuta.
Famakin explained that all arrangements had been concluded to organise the empowerment programme scheduled to take off within the next two weeks, noting that the Ministry had been partnering with NAPTIP to combat the menace of child trafficking, but also called for further collaboration of the Ministry.
“The partnership is where the Ministry is needed; this is an integral part of success. It is a crime that cannot be tackled by a single agency, single organisation or by single country, but through collective effort by all development partners,” he said.
