From Senchi Hotel to Peninsula Resort, see Ghana’s top ‘love at first sight’ tourist destinations

Holidaymakers, tourists and travel enthusiasts looking for a next destination to jump on, you may not need to look far away. Ghana is barely two hours flight away and the country has in recent times taken deliberate measures to boost its tourist attractions in a bid to attract more visitors.

According to the 2022 Ghana Tourism Report, the United States of America (USA) continues to lead inbound visitor arrivals to Ghana with 118,369 arrivals, followed by Nigeria with 72,786 tourism arrivals.

This shows Nigeria’s tourist visits to Ghana has continued to rise following recent development in Ghana’s tourist attractions.

One of the destinations that have put Ghana on the tourism global map is the Royal Senchi Hotel & Resort at Akosombo, Ghana’s first 4 Star resort.

Royal Senchi Hotel & Resort

Located in Senchi on the Akosombo road, about an hour 45 minutes drive from the Capital city, Accra, Royal Senchi Hotel & Resort is situated at the banks of the Volta Lake, offering a destination that fuses with the serenity of nature and complemented by high standards of hospitality services.

With 84 rooms, Royal Senchi Hotel & Resort had been designed to blend into the appealing, balmy environment and the surrounding rich forestry.

Its location is distinct from the hectic city life, yet near enough for easy commuting. The resort boasts of three room categories namely, 74 river view rooms, nine river suites and one picarthates (presidential) suit which has its own living room downstairs, an exquisite bedroom upstairs as well as private swimming pool.

The resort which has a state-of-the-art conference facility accommodates a maximum of 200 participants.

The resort has a mini library where people can come in with their laptops, read and do their work.

At the Senchi Spa, there are different categories of massage which attract different prices.

To indulge the culinary taste of its guests, the Senchi Restaurant, Nsu Bar and sports bar is the ideal meeting place for both residents and non-residents alike and meals can be enjoyed in a cozy and relaxing atmosphere.

The resort has a variety of recreational activities ranging from mini soccer, badminton, swimming pool, gymnasium, lawn and table tennis, basketball, volleyball, kayak and Pedalo and a golf driving range to keep visitors fresh and active during their stay.

Volta Lake

Just beside the Royal Senchi Hotel & Resort, there are boats to take visitors on a tour through the Volta Lake.

Lake Volta, the largest artificial reservoir in the world based on surface area,

It extends from Akosombo in the south to the northern part of the country.

The trees around the Volta Lake have their botanical names. Different species (over 44) of birds gather around the lake in the morning. The lake which is over 35 acres of island offers visitors opportunity to view beautiful surroundings around the lake during the cruise.

The reservoir plays a key role in local transportation, providing an easily maneuverable waterway to both ferries and cargo ships. The body of water is navigable from Akosombo through Yeji, making it easy to get from one side of the reservoir to the other. The lake has brought about tourism in the region.

Peninsula Resort & Golf Club

The Peninsula Resort in Akosombo is a three hour drive from Accra, and is surely one destination tourists love to visit because of its various resort amenities.

The resort is located on the Asuogyaman-Atimpoku road, about a 30-minute drive outside Akosombo proper. Being that its located in a rural area, the access road to it isn’t the best, but is certainly worth the time and drive.

The amenities at the Peninsula resort include pools, two tennis courts, a nine-hole golf course, horseback riding, and a 550m canopy walkway – the longest canopy walkway in West Africa.

The resort offers hikes or dirtbike rides up to the canopy walkway.

The resort offers all inclusive dining which is exceptional. Staff was friendly and very helpful with securing taxis, giving walking directions, and providing early breakfast when needed.

Accra City Hotel

Another must visit destination in Ghana is the Accra City Hotel.

Accra City Hotel, Ghana’s first internationally branded Hotel in 1988 and first ISO certified hotel in West Africa offers 196 well-furnished guest rooms ranging from Queen-size rooms to Studio units.

Located in the center of Accra, just 2km from the beach, the property offers free Wi-Fi, a fitness center, a tennis court and an outdoor pool.

The air-conditioned rooms at Accra City Hotel feature simple décor, a flat-screen TV, a minibar and a refrigerator. The private bathroom includes a hairdryer and free toiletries.
